Sports Quiz
1. Connect. Hint: Rivalry & Politics led to its creation. (Gimme full story)

Tour de France. The story: The dominant sports newspaper in France at the end of the 19th century was Le Vélo. Like other sports papers, it mixed sports reports with news and political comment. France was split socially over the guilt or innocence of a soldier, Alfred Dreyfus (Pic 3), who had been found guilty of selling secrets to the Germans. Le Vélo stood for Dreyfus's innocence. Angry scenes followed between the advertisers and the editor, Pierre Giffard (Pic 1), and the advertisers withdrew their support and started a rival paper. One of them was Henri Desgrange (Pic 2). He started a newspaper called L'Auto. To promote sales of L'Auto, the Tour de France began. It was a publicity measure to outdo the Paris-Brest et retour race organised by Giffard. The idea came from L'Auto's chief cycling journalist, 26-year-old Géo Lefèvre.
2. Gimme the team & the occasions.

BMW Sauber. They put "Thank You" messages towards Michael Schumacher on the back of their cars for the German's last Grand Prix in Brazil. The 2nd one was when Jacques Villeneuve got married.
3. Connect:

Sharapova has been known to wear eccentric or revealing outfits from Nike on court, but the one in the pic is supposedly a Breakfast at Tiffany's-inspired dress.
4. Their contribution to the world of sports?
The members of IBM’s Deep Blue team (l-r) Joe Hoane, Joel Benjamin, Jerry Brody, Feng-Hsiung Hsu, C.J. Tan and Murray Campbell. The Deep Blue beat Garry Kasparov. It was actually a measure taken by IBM to promote its image as a leader in computer technology.
5. He played for Corinthian Casuals, Chelsea & Manchester City in amateur football. He also took part in Wimbledon and has won a title too. He also won a doubles title at the Olympics & captained British Davis Cup team. One of his notable achievements include defeating actor and film director Charlie Chaplin at table tennis with a butter knife instead of a bat. Name this multi-talented sportsman.

Max Woosnam was the player who beat Charlie Chaplin, but he never played for Corinthian-Casuals. He played for Corinthian FC one of the two clubs who amalgamated to form Corinthian-Casuals FC.
He won football caps for England at full International standard not certain he played for Chelsea and Man City as a Amatuer.
